Why Shared Hosting

The type of web hosting where a single physical server hosts several websites is called shared hosting. Multiple users use the resources on a single server to keep costs down. Each user gets a section of the server where they can host their website files. Shared servers can host hundreds of users. Each customer using a shared hosting platform server has access to features such as databases, monthly traffic, disk space, email accounts, FTP accounts,  and other add-ons offered by the host.

On a server, system resources are shared on demand by users for a percentage of everything from RAM and CPU, to other items like the individual MySQL server, Apache server, and mail server.

Shared hosting offers the most cost effective way to get a website online as server maintenance costs are divided among all users. It is best suited for a small website or blog that does not require advanced configurations or high bandwidth.

Shared hosting is not ideal for sites with high traffic, VPS or dedicated hosting solutions are more suitable for them.
